Yaoi
First of all: yaoi is a woman's genre of stories and/or art, made by women for women.
Second: it is about romance and very much sexual relationships (with often very graphic scenes) seen from the romantic views and notions of a woman. It’s not gay male porn, but a female fantasy of m/m relationships, and since women tend to like the truly romantic and guys don’t, this genre is more attractive to girls than guys. Duh!
It all began in Japan – just as with everything else slightly out of the ordinary – a group of women started writing manga of said genre. It inspired other women, amateurs, to write their own (the boys from Weiss Kreuz and Gundam Wing are a good place to start…) yaoi or shounen ai (boy's love) stories, and there you go. It has now reached the western world and continues to expand. Imagination knows no boundaries! *grin*
You could call it homoerotica or whatever you like, it’s all the same in the end and comes down to one thing: if you don’t like it, don’t read it.
